FAQs
Janat was founded in Paris in 1872 by Janat Dores, a daring French merchant who set sail from the port of Marseille to source the finest teas, coffees, and spices from the Orient and the New World.
A man of vision and daring, Dores found one his greatest inspirations in Paris: Gustave Eiffel. Their friendship flourished at the 1889 Universal Exposition where Janat even invested in the Eiffel Tower and the invention of the French Oak Tea Barrel. To this day, the Janat family still holds a piece of the original spiral staircase.
Our founder was an entrepreneur and traveler whose two cats, Sam and Beau, became the symbols of the brand, representing luck and loyalty.n Sample Description
AccordiThe two cats are Sam and Beau: Janat Dores' beloved companions and, as he firmly believed, his greatest source of luck.
Our tea is grown in the Sapphire Valley, a highland rainforest estate in Sri Lanka, where over a thousand women handpick our leaves every day, selecting only what is freshest, at precisely the right moment.
Natural flavours are developed with equal care: French apple from Normandy, Sicilian bergamot for our Earl Grey, and Provençal botanicals for our seasonal blends.
We follow a "farm-to-cup" philosophy, ensuring that every cup of Janat Tea is delivered fresh and upholds the high quality that earned us the World’s Best Tea award at the Paris Tea Expo. From rare blends to the renowned Japanese N1, each cup brings you good fortune, with the essence of the land in every sip. It’s a global voyage, from plantation to teapot, offering you a taste of luck and happiness.
Yes, Janat tea is both organic and pesticide-free. We cultivate using microbiome farming: a method that replaces conventional chemical inputs with Aquabiota, a probiotic biofertilizer developed from the Sapphire Valley estate's own native microbial ecosystem. Healthier soil produces leaves naturally higher in L-theanine, which brings calm focus, and polyphenols, which support your longevity and well-being.
Janat is the creator of the world's first tea matured in French Oak barrels. Using techniques similar to wine aging, we store the tea in oak barrels to infuse the leaves with a subtle woody aroma and natural vanilla notes, creating a unique, sophisticated flavor profile.
Janat developed the World's First French Oak Tea, a unique tea matured in French oak barrels.
This unique oak-aged tea with a rich, woody aroma and subtle vanilla notes was inspired by the works of Gustave Eiffel. This innovation was first introduced in 1889, making Janat Tea as timeless as the Eiffel Tower, a symbol of luck and enduring elegance.
For most of our black teas, we recommend using fresh, near-boiling water (approx. 95°C-100°C) and steeping for 3 minutes. Steeping longer may result in bitterness. For our fruit-flavored Provence series, we suggest enjoying them "straight" (without milk) to fully appreciate the natural Mediterranean aromas.
